One skill will be activated during offence/attacking and once it runs our (after extending it with energy packs) switch to the second perk which should be more defensive.

A good strategy to using perks well is to pick two, and upgrade both equally.Instead, focus on two main skills, level them up and cycle between their cooldowns. Each will consume some skill energy, activating all at the same time will drain it within 3-5 seconds. Don't activate your special skills all at the same time.First target the smaller ships that escort it (usually classed "Weak" or "Trivial") then deal with the main ship. Ships classed as "Impossible" are not impossible to take down.Don't be afraid to take on missions that are for higher levels.

Stick with your starter ship till level 10-12 but upgrade everything to its highest then wait till you have about 10 mil plus before upgrading to bigger ships. Don't rush to upgrade to a new ship as you will need to have additional $$$ millions to upgrade weapons and systems. Your starting ship is more powerful then you think. This is their blind spot and something you can use to bring ships many classes above you down when done right. Stay behind thrusters of larger ships, very few big ships have turrets behind them. This will target their weapons or other crucial systems with smaller hit points and render them handicapped. Use the "Target Systems" context menu option when going up against "Balanced" or above enemies.Couple this with the tactical overlay and you can learn to rotate your ship to face the enemy where your shield is the strongest. Plus you can zoom in and out of your ship with the NUM+/- keys. It may seem hard at first but you can see a lot of the action and make better decisions/moves this way. Enjoy being a mobile death machine to everything else in the galaxy except other titans. Once done, enjoy your shiny new Titan and use the money you saved to build turrets and buys systems. It shouldn't be too hard though it will take a few tries. This is fine, now start the Titan mission and complete it. By the time you hit level 65-70 you should be getting killed by bigger classed ships. PRO-TIP: Save and buy a Frigate or Cruiser and use it until level 65, upgrading weapons and systems as necessary.

They can be defeated as the AI often times just have large ships with low damage guns or very good guns on low hull/shield ships. This is because missions that are way above your level or have "impossible" level enemies are not always impossible. It's ok if you die, since there is no penalty just reload and try again. (often times 200K-400K when I was a level 15 where regular missions only give 30K-50K) But it's not a deal breaker. Personally, I prefer doing the story mode first since many missions in story mode give more $$ than standard missions at lower levels.
